The personal computing revolution of the 1980s, the Internet revolution of the 1990s, and the mobile devices revolution of the 2000s put virtual supercomputers in the hands of average citizens, and these transformational technologies have changed the world. That said, each of these technologies emerged gradually and in isolation. We had time to develop the use of personal computing before the Internet arrived and changed the game once more. We were Internet-smart long before smartphones put the Web in our pockets.
